International Workshop: ADAPTIVE RE-USE & Contemporary Infill in Historical Environments
8th-11thMay 2018
- Short description of the program
The aim of this international workshop was to dissolve the borders between different design disciplines by bringing together students and academicians from different universities, different nations and from various design related disciplines. Within this framework, academicians from Eastern Mediterranean University - Department of Interior Architecture and Department of Architecture; Istanbul Technical University - Department of City and Regional Planning; Istanbul Commerce University - Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design; Cyprus international University – Department of Architecture and Department of Interior Architecture, brought their students together to work in mixed teams. Both undergraduate and graduate students from various disciplines and four different international universities were expected to work in mixed teams to make ‘adaptive re-use and infill` suggestions within historical context in two major walled-cities of Cyprus which are Famagusta and Nicosia. The workshop included six seminars given by the professors followed by site analyses in both Nicosia Walled-City and Famagusta Walled-City besides studio workshops in order to produce conceptual design ideas. The students have produced creative solutions for adaptive reuse of historical buildings as well as for contemporary infill in historical context.
