Interior Architecture (with Thesis)

Master of Science in Interior Architecture (M. Sc Int. Arch – with thesis)

Department of Interior Architecture offers a learning environment with a contemporary approach to education for young people of diverse cultural backgrounds. The aim is to provide opportunities for future interior architects to be equipped with necessary knowledge and skills to cope with rapid global changes, to react rationally as well as creatively to contemporary issues in interior architecture, its problems and challenges, within an interdisciplinary approach to education through its distinguished academic infrastructure. The graduates are expected to contribute to the improvement of quality of life as dynamic individuals with a high sense of responsibility and leadership, capable of assuming central roles in teamwork -a global reality of our day.

The Department of Interior Architecture offers a program of study leading to the degree of Master of Science in Interior Architecture (M.Sc. - with thesis) for students whose training and orientation are primarily in Interior Architecture.

The mission of the Interior Architecture Graduate program is to create a high-quality research environment that allows students to specialize in different areas of interior architecture. The program prepares students for their professional life in a multi-disciplinary environment by equipping them with applications related to interior architecture and advanced theoretical research and education. The aim of all the programs offered by the department is to bring students to the level of ability to question or connect theory and practice, to define or describe alternative issues related to interior architecture, and to produce alternative solutions.

Admission Requirements

The candidates for admission to the Master of Science Program in Interior Architecture must satisfy the requirements of the Institute of Graduate Studies and Research of the university as well as the Departmental requirements. Candidates for admission to the M.S. in Interior Architecture Program should have a B.Int.Arch. degree in interior architecture or in a relevant related discipline.

The candidates for admission to the Master of Science Program in Interior Architecture are expected to complete at least a four years bachelor's degree either from interior architecture, architecture, industrial design, landscape architecture or urban design programs. Applicants who hold bachelor's degree other than interior architecture or above listed related disciplines can get Conditional Acceptance where they are expected to take deficiency courses, recommended by the graduate committee of Interior Architecture Department.

M.S. Thesis

Upon the agreement between the candidate and a preferred academician, the latter is assigned as thesis supervisor. The course is conducted in the form of regular meetings between master student and supervisor so as to enhance the development of the student as a scholar with capacities to produce scentific research. The aim of these sessions is to support the master student in formulating the framework for master study - specifying research topic, problem and area/ cases of study, the approach and methodology, and ultimately lead to the completion of the final thesis.

Interdisciplinary Workshop

Interdisciplinary Workshop is a compulsory course offered to all graduate students of Faculty of Architecture at an interdisciplinary level. Since architecture stands at the intersection point of different study areas, the interdisciplinary character of the professional studies have to be employed. Thus, the aim of this compulsory course is to guide the students to carry out certain researches around their different interest areas while the theme remaining constant within one semester.

Advanced Research Methods

This is an introductory course at the level of graduate studies, for the purpose of developing an understanding of fundamentals of research & research process as well as ethics of research. It provides an introduction to methods of research for post graduate students in the Department of Architecture. The course is interactive and covers a range of knowledge and skills areas.

Seminar

The purpose of the graduate seminars is to provide graduate students with exposure to a variety of research projects and activities in order to enrich their academic experiences. The seminars by the students will also provide the department members with an opportunity to familiarize themselves with all graduate students within the department and learn about each student's research activities. Finally, the seminars will provide the students with an opportunity to develop skills in presentation and discussion of research topics in a public forum.

Application

All applications should be completed through the Institute of Graduate Studies official website:

https://applyonline.emu.edu.tr/grad/

Candidates for admission to the M.Int.Arch. Program should have a B. Int.Arch. degree in interior architecture. The graduates of the program obtain the title of a registered / practicing architect.

The candidates for admission to the Master Program in Interior Architecture are expected to complete at least a four years bachelor's degree either from interior architecture, architecture, industrial design, landscape architecture or urban design programs. Applicants who hold bachelors degree other than interior architecture or above listed related disciplines can get Conditional Acceptance where they are expected to take deficiency courses, recommended by the graduate committee of Interior Architecture Department.

In addition to the documents specified in the Application Form for Graduate Studies and Research, the Department of Interior Architecture also requires:

  • A Portfolio
  • A CV
  • A Copy of the Undergraduate Diploma
  • A Transcript
  • A Letter of proposal
  • Reference letter(s)
